Turning 67 Minutes into Lasting Impact
Some moments cannot be measured by the ticking of a clock. On Mandela Day, 67 minutes may seem brief, but inside the walls of Heartlands Baby Sanctuary in Somerset West, those minutes became something far more significant. They became moments of compassion, laughter, generosity and hope.
VEA Group’s team stepped away from their desks and project sites to spend their Mandela Day where it mattered most, alongside some of the Western Cape’s most vulnerable babies and toddlers. Our visit was about far more than fulfilling a tradition. It was about honouring Nelson Mandela’s legacy through meaningful human connection.
Giving with Purpose
With arms full of thoughtfully selected gifts and hearts ready to serve, we at VEA Group team spent time engaging with the children, sharing smiles, creating joyful memories and offering support to the dedicated staff who care for children every day of the year. The donations formed part of Heartlands Baby Sanctuary’s wish list, helping provide essential items that will continue making a difference long after Mandela Day has passed.
A Sanctuary Built on Compassion
Heartlands Baby Sanctuary has become a place of refuge for abandoned, abused and orphaned babies, providing not only a safe home but also the love, stability and specialised care every child deserves during the earliest stages of life. It is an organisation built on compassion, supported by a community that continues to answer the call whenever it is needed.
More Than Corporate Social Investment
For VEA Group, this visit reflected a belief that corporate social investment is most powerful when it is personal. While donations provide practical support, the greatest gift is often time itself, the willingness to be present, to listen, to encourage and to remind people working tirelessly behind the scenes that they are not alone.

The gratitude shown by Heartlands Baby Sanctuary was heartfelt. “We are incredibly thankful for all the organisations and private individuals who’ve stepped up this Mandela Day. We have a wish list, and people have supported that wish list in droves. And we cannot thank every single person who’s contributed to this Mandela Day at Heartlands enough for what they have done. Thank you so much,” said Samantha Lee-Jacobs, Marketing Lead at Heartlands Baby Sanctuary.
Her words serve as a reminder that behind every donation lies a story of generosity, and behind every act of kindness stands a community choosing to make a difference.
Honouring Mandela’s Legacy Through Action
Mandela Day asks every South African one simple question: What can you do to change the world for the better? For VEA Group, the answer was found not in grand gestures but in showing up with purpose, with compassion and with a genuine commitment to serving others.
